The Theatrical Designer Pay Resource is an anonymous crowd-sourced pay resource for theatrical designers in the USA started by Elsa Hiltner in 2018. The document encourages transparency and conversations about compensation, and is used as a reference resource and negotiation tool.

Every major market within the United States is included in the resource. There are regional tabs along the bottom of the sheet to help you find the data you need. Theatre companies are listed alphabetically within each regional tab.

The resource also includes publicly available operating budget and top executive pay information to give context to the designer submitted pay information. And, as labor support and mileage reimbursement factor into compensation and pay equity, that information is listed as well.

The rates listed are what people have been paid, and is not an endorsement for those rates. Always consult living wage data in your area before defining pay rates.
